About

RIBOT is pleased to present the first solo exhibition in Italy by Vera Kox (Frankfurt/Main, 1984), showing a series of recent sculptures and installations.

The title of the show, Fit frame to content, originating from the digital world - a function within photo-editing software to adjust the size of an image- is taking on a different meaning in the context of the show and becomes the cue for thoughts about the relationship between the works and the space surrounding them. The attention is thus concentrated on the mutual adaptation generated between the elements that are seen, in the gallery setting and, on the other hand, in such neglected spaces as those where artworks pass through whilst being 'in between' shows. It is the material surroundings which have been fitted and standardised to serve a specific function which are revealed and highlighted, twisted and reverted within the works on display. The temporary and flexible, the unstable and unfinished which is being acknowledged in the artists work.

On the upper gallery floor, the sculptures allude to ideas of matter held in an in-between-state, contrasting the hard and the soft, the instantaneous and the monumental, integrating such highly manufactured elements as instant noodles. On the lower ground floor, the Perseverance series, made specifically for this occasion, show adaptations and contaminations between various elements of a temporary setting: White blocks materialise the potential space that exists within cardboard boxes, tracing their journey on their surfaces: the metallic impression of the gallery steps, the bubble-wrap packaging as well as protective packaging chips which surround the works during storage and transport. This idea also forms the base of the special edition produced in eight examples especially for the show: an access material being re-evaluated in a system that enhances its existence.
