V&A at Dundee Masterclass: Calum Colvin Portraits for the Future
23-25 November 2011, The McManus, Dundee, Scotland, DD1 1DA
Hosted by internationally renowned artist Calum Colvin, this is the first in a series of V&A at Dundee Masterclasses exploring design-led innovation. This Masterclass takes its inspiration from the V&A exhibition Queen Elizabeth II: Portraits by Cecil Beaton currently on show at The McManus in Dundee, as part of the pre-opening programme for V&A at Dundee.
Aimed at professionals working in the creative industries, this three-day workshop will use the Cecil Beaton exhibition as a basis for debate and inspiration, examining how the process of portraiture has developed since Beaton's original photographs were taken.
Colvin has achieved international recognition for his innovative approach to portraiture over the last decade and is acknowledged as a leader in the field of digital photography. Using his subject's past as a starting point, Colvin builds a portrait using objects and clever manipulation of perspective to create an image that encapsulates the individual's unique personality.
This innovative approach to photography will form the basis of the Masterclass which will use advanced photographic technology, lighting and humour to experiment and create portraits for the digital age.
And that's not all! The Masterclass will also provide a rare opportunity to work with some incredible state of the art Hasselblad digital technology generously loaned to us for the duration of the Masterclass by Calumet, the UK's leading supplier of digital photographic equipment.
Places cost £125 and are limited.
