This workshop encourages the exploration of the local landscape for ideas that can later be devloped in the studio. This may not necessarily be a direct recording of what is observed but a personal response, an interpretation. The day will begin with a brief discussion on using sketchbooks as a launch for ideas, before working outside, gathering imagery and other information and returning to the studio to develop a peice of artwork. The aim of the course is to produce ideas that encourage free creativity and afeeling of confidence in making artwork.
Students should bring sketchbooks and any materials they enjoy working with or have rarely or even never worked with, including paper, canvas, boards, paints, brushes, palettes pencils, charcoal, inks, pastels, collage etc. Don’t forget to bring white spirit, turps, linseed oil, glue if needed and a water container.
