Richard Knight's "urbanicity" is apparent in the very fabric of his subject and the way in which he chooses to describe it.

About

The architecture of the river, the city, and its people are prominent in Richard Knights gestural paintings. Trees and people alike appear structural, adding to the "urbanicity" of these works. The necessity of scale and correctness in mapping out such a subject is soon overridden. The artists' excitement peaked by the dynamism between paint and surface, permits randomness to take control. Rigorous mark-making, continuous scraping back, repainting and layering allow this intuition to steer the painting to its final textured interpretation.
