Rostra Gallery’s new exhibition explores how city life influences the art world and is a fantastic source of inspiration for many artists.
About
Includes work by Clare Halifax, Sean Alexander, Anna Marrow and Dan Baldwin creating paintings and screen prints that celebrate urban architecture, everyday materials, street art and graffiti.
Clare Halifax has been working as a printmaker for a number of years focusing on cityscapes and landscapes. Within each piece of work, design, pattern and colour play an important part, adding depth and decoration to create a unique overall effect. Clients have included ‘Coast’ Magazine, Liberty’s, Tate Online, Farrow & Ball, Huxleys Restaurant and the Berkley Group. Clare currently resides in London where she continues to be influenced by her everyday environment. Sean Alexander’s paintings take observation from everyday life with visual twists on them. Sean uses robust materials such as household paint, vinyl and melamine to create layered tactile work. The overall effect is bold, colourful and sleek. Anna Marrow’s screen prints combine mundane objects and environments with exotic creatures and characters to create surprising and sometime humorous scenes. Anna loves architecture, particularly Victorian and contemporary brutalism, a combination of the two seems to echo most of the places she has lived.
If you have a passion for the city Urban Art is not to be missed. Vibrant colours, bold design and amazing details will be on display until 10th October.
