About

Lucie Varekova is an emerging photographer whose pictures capture unfamiliar environments and particularly feelings familiar with those who live there. A walk around the Original Gallery will acquaint you with — the people who live by Heathrow's third runway; the community who look after the Golf Course Allotments; and a hot air balloon festival in the Czech Republic. Lucie captures all that is there, about to never be there again and sometimes what has just left. Originally from the Moravia region of the eastern Czech Republic, Lucie arrived in London in 2003 and worked as an au-pair. Her passion for image-making grew in 2005 when she began a BTEC at City and Islington College. She was then accepted onto a BA Photography course at Middlesex University and graduated with a First in 2009. Since graduating Lucie has concentrated on developing her career as a photographer. Lucie has exhibited extensively across London. Her most recent work The Grey Jumper was featured in the Rag Factory as part of the 3is3 Identity showcase and No Third Runway appeared in New York Times online. Her images have also been published in Flip and RPS magazine, and in the Guardian as part of an article about Tim Andrews- a man with Parkinson's who turned himself into an art project by being photographed by 128 photographers. Lucie is a member of London Independent Photography and the Royal Photographic Society. Lucie Varekova's UP will be on show at the Original Gallery, N8 from Wednesday 2nd to Saturday 26th March 2011. Join us on Wednesday 2nd March from 7 to 9pm for the exhibition's private view. Contact: Elena Pippou Cultural Officer, Haringey Council (t: 020 8489 1419; e: Elena.pippou@haringey.gov.uk)
