Artist Jasleen Kaur discusses her practice and recent projects. Her work is an ongoing exploration into the malleability of culture and the layering of social histories within materials and objects

About

Jasleen Kaur employs the ‘cobbled together’ as an artistic approach to understand the already-made, pulling together unlearned and culturally acquired knowledge in her work. Her practice uses a range of methods including sculpture, video, conversation and cooking.

Kaur is currently working on a commission with Serpentine Education as part of Changing Play. Changing Play is an ongoing partnership with the Portman Early Childhood Centre in Westminster which brings together artists, children, families and educators to critically reconsider early years education and care.

Working in collaboratively with children and mothers from The Portman Early Childhood Centre, Kaur uses the micro-politics of cooking and eating together to collectively consider and respond to issues facing the local community.

Unwritten Handbook is a seasonal series of conversations with artists commissioned through Education and Projects at the Serpentine Galleries. Recent Artist Talks include: Adam James, Adelita Husni-Bey, Rehana Zaman, Harold Offeh and Paul Maheke.
