About
Technology has evolved at such a pace that we as a generation can barely keep up, nor recognise it. We seem unable to appreciate nor differentiate the amazing leaps in science and technology, that impact us so profoundly, for better or for worse.
It is now common place to see a crying child comforted by their parents’ iPads and iPhones. Their biologically programmed need for tactile and visual senses have been replaced by an abundance of accessible information. Our offspring are no longer reliant on tangible, physical experiences. But instead, learn to absorb information through video tutorials and forums. Their fingers and minds adapting quicker and becoming increasingly normalised to creating an understanding of their world through an ergonomic digital lens. The dystopian technologies of sci-fi genres are no longer fictional; they are an integral part of our physical reality.
Accelerated by COVID-19 events, our lives are progressively co-depending on digital space. It offers us freedom where there is none, connection during isolation and mindless escapism from the banality of lockdown. This exhibition, entitled ‘Unreal’ will emulate the blurring and transitioning of digital space into our physical reality.
