[UNIT] is a collective of artists presenting a brand new audio/visual, multi-sensory, immersive performance. It seeks to redefine traditional notions of performance by addressing relationships between space, composer, performer and audience, engaging the latter in the music-making process.

About

Performances at 2pm, 7pm and 9pm on Friday 2nd September and Saturday 3rd September.

[UNIT] is a collective of artists presenting a brand new audio/visual, multi-sensory, immersive performance. It seeks to redefine traditional notions of performance by addressing relationships between space, composer, performer and audience, engaging the latter in the music-making process.

[UNIT] produces work that draws on traditional, electronic and experimental music and live visual art practice, each working with the other elements to create a complete performance.

The performances are a mix of traditional classical instruments, electronics and live visuals, all happening within a purpose built immersive environment consisting of seven large scale projection screens and an eight point speaker system. The performers will be in the centre of this circle, with the audience surrounding and encouraged to move around the space, with the screens and speakers creating the circle boundary. We hope to give audiences an experience like they've never had before, by putting them right in the heart of it and breaking down some of the barriers that usually exist between composer, performer and audience. Each performance will be recorded binaurally to give a 3D sound sensation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binaural_recording) and a download link given to audience members via email (should they wish to provide us with their email address) so they can listen back to the thing they were an essential part of. Tickets are only £5 and you can get them now from Norwich Arts Centre.

Comprising Bill Vine, Anthony Bailey and Dan Tombs, this exciting and innovative project is supported by Arts Council England, Norwich Arts Centre, Escalator Music, Electronic Sound Magazine, Watershed Studio, The Space and The Shoe Factory Social Club.
