About

MANCHESTER'S Comme Ca Gallery are to show London based artist Paul Bennett for the first time, a painter reinventing the real with his portraits of bygone glamour. His newest artworks entitled ‘Uninvisible' will be exhibited at the Lowry Hotel ahead of a packed summer schedule of art fairs and exhibitions. The artist produces beautiful figurative paintings portraying female subjects. His women are evolved forms of found images that Paul takes from magazines and advertising, from which he begins his painting process. Unlike artists who use found images as a way to criticise their source, Paul employs them as a middle ground to further separate the viewer and the subject. Using found images this way, the artist says, is his way of breaking free from direct representation and being able to create true expressionistic portraiture. The stylish look of his finished paintings shows a true understanding of form, which makes for unique and individual portraits.
