From June 21, 2024 Nil Gallery (Paris) and Asfalto (Rio de Janeiro) present "Uma Terra do Futuro," a group show showcasing the works of eight visionary Brazilian artists curated by by Cindy Sissokho, renowned for her co-curation of the French Pavilion at the Venice Biennial 2024.

About

Nil Gallery (Paris) and Asfalto (Rio de Janeiro) present "Uma Terra do Futuro," an exhibition that brings together the visionary works of eight Brazilian artists: Lucas Almeida, Bruno Alves, Bianca Foratori, Victor Henrique Fidelis, Laryssa Machada, Ian Nes, Ana Neves, and Raphael Oboé.

Curated by Cindy Sissokho, renowned for her co-curation of the French Pavilion at the Venice Biennial 2024, this exhibition runs from June 21 and invites audiences to delve into futures rooted in the intimate, personal, and collective narratives emerging from Brazilian culture.

"Uma Terra do Futuro" offers a profound exploration of the concept of indigeneity—originating within one's own country—amid the racial, socio-economic, and political landscapes of both Brazil and France. This exhibition acts as a powerful outcry for historical recognition and sustainable visibility of marginalized communities. It transcends geographical boundaries, engaging in a political and restless search for belonging in a world still grappling with colonial legacies.

The featured artists, whether Black, Indigenous, queer, or working-class, use their work to (re)define their own spaces of indigeneity within Brazil's rich histories. Through painting, sculpture, and photography, they narrate the poetics of everyday life, crafting spaces of liberation that honor the symbols of their homes, relationships, and communities. These artists merge modernist traditions with pop and vernacular culture to challenge stereotypical colonial representations and forge new identities.

"Uma Terra do Futuro" celebrates scenes of intimacy, devoted kinships, and intergenerational bonds as keys to collective existence and liberation. The exhibition offers a deeply personal and transformative journey into the stories of these resilient and creative individuals, whose art stands as a testament to their ongoing struggle for recognition and belonging.

Experience the insightful and transformative narratives of these Brazilian artists, on full display at Nil Gallery, and discover the rich tapestry of futures they imagine and bring to life through their art.
