New works by Charlotte Freed

About

Charlotte is best known for photography, and her often challenging subject matter. With this work she has reached a new level of sophistication and maturity, reinterpreting the nude in a unique and intriguing manner. Her work is fiercely contemporary but, just as Braque & Picasso were influenced by early Film-makers, Charlotte has taken a Cubist approach to her abstraction of the nude. Rather than break the nude into geometric sections, she has imposed ‘found' dress-making patterns on to her images. The irony, from a 21st Century viewpoint, of the juxtaposition of dress making patterns over the naked female form is obvious. Less immediately clear and perhaps consequently more powerful is, that the dissecting of the body, hints at the diagrams of animals found in cookery books. Having created 7 works with this unique new approach to photo-montage Charlotte has brought an organic hand-made element into play. Each of the images are underpinned with a unique and complex paper collage.
