About
In the third and the last event a filmmaker, screenwriter, journalist, and film scholar Nur Özgenalp will introduce two short films by two female directors from Turkey.
In her presentation, she will contemplate on the storytelling styles of female directors and brainstorm together with the spectators on the politics of these films. What differentiates when the look of the film becomes female? What are the relationships between art and politics? What is solidarity and how does it appear in films made by women? In the light of these questions, Nur Özgenalp would firstly investigate the forces and potentials of creative and subversive resistance acts to understand the intricate relationship between art and politics. Then, together with the audience, she would explore the interactivity between solidarity and resistance.
Nur Özgenalp is a filmmaker, screenwriter, journalist, and film scholar. She has directed four short films as part of her bachelor’s degree in Cinema and Television from Mimar Sinan University. She worked in the film and television industry in Turkey as editor and scriptwriter and taught film and media at Academy Istanbul and Izmir University of Economics. Her MA thesis concentrated on film theory and psychoanalysis.
She is currently a doctoral researcher at Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis, where she studies cultural and political transformations by examining storytelling elements of fiction film and television series in relation to macropolitical movements. She makes news films with Broadcast Amsterdam and runs the CineDam website. She also teaches film at Aki-ArtEZ Enschede and SAE Amsterdam, and other courses at Amsterdam University College.
