Avenue Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition by Steve Godfrey, freelance music photographer and Technical Demonstrator at the University of Northampton’s photography Department.
Steve’s work covers a diverse range of musical genres, but the main focus of this exhibition will be his documentation of the Gothic subculture through a series of images produced during his role as official photographer to the Whitby Goth Weekend music festival. The festival celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, and Steve explains; “I’ve been the official photographer at the festival since its conception in 1994, and will be celebrating the anniversary with a retrospective touring exhibition of the bands that have played and the changes in Gothic fashion over that time”.
The exhibition will tour to the Whitby Pavilion in April 2015 to coincide with a twentieth anniversary event and the launch of a book, provisionally entitled "Celebrating 20 years of Whitby Goth Weekend – a Musical History", which will feature many of the images on display.
The exhibition will open at Avenue Gallery from 8-19 December, Monday-Friday 10m-4pm, with a private view on Thursday 11th December from 5-8pm. For more details, contact the gallery on 01604 893050 or email email@example.com.
