About

‘A Trolley of Folly' is an exhibition that aims to fuse three artist's work in the combination of material, sound and action into something that exceeds the sum of its parts. It is installed in a large industrial space situated in the Tram Depot in Clapton, a place where labour and toil have been prominent and where inevitably soon the embodied energy of this place will be demolished to make way for expensive apartments. The artists exhibiting fall loosely into the categories of Sculptor (glorified technician), Performer (meandering popstar) and Dramaturg (sound artist). Liam Crichton's sculptural installation in the space is partly constructed from the raw material that exists there already as well as material brought in. Crichton's material approach underpins the proceedings with a dark, clean, sinister edge and provides a backdrop for Calvin Laing's performances scheduled at multiple points during AL weekend (tba). A selection of Laing's video works will also be presented in the gallery. Tebano acts as the audible mood creator. His site-specific sound installation echoes in the gallery space, designed to reflect the industrial surroundings and to bolster Crichton's and Laing's work. In addition to this installation in the gallery there will be a publication limited to 100 copies by Allotrope Press launched on the closing night of the show, including contributing texts related to the work and theme.
