Jordan Wayne Long and Dani Ploeger TRAUMA & VANITY

About

American and Dutch performance artists indulge in torture and exhibitionism presentation of two new large scale installation works at ]performance s p a c e [ in Hackney Wick As part of their performance series Trauma & Vanity, which consists of three evenings of performances taking place in the Netherlands, France and the UK this summer, Jordan Wayne Long (US) and Dani Ploeger (NL/D/UK) will present two new performance installations in ]performance space[ this Thursday 5 July at 8pm. In Jordan Wayne Long's Remote Control #1: Button. Control. Proceed. visitors are invited to exercise control through the operation of a button that activates the installation of which the artist's body forms part. In Dani Ploeger's biotope the artist presents himself wearing a gas mask inside a transparent box with a petrol generator that powers a computer, which is used to engage in social networking. Jordan Wayne Long is originally from Bald Knob, Arkansas, and was a zookeeper before he became an artist. His work deals with trauma. He has shipped himself across the United States while locked in a box, dragged himself behind a car, built a machine to cure his fear of heights and made a tower out of cardboard. Dani Ploeger grew up in the Dutch countryside and currently lives and works in London and Berlin. Heralded in the press as the ‘Jimi Hendrix of the sphincter', his performance installations engage with cheap consumer technologies and explore themes around the technologized body, sexuality and vanity. Dani and Jordan met in Boston. They like each other and share a fascination with Rambo.
