‘Transverse Wave’ brings Mary Bauermeister and Rashid Al Khalifa together with the sound designer Simon Stockhausen, opening on 16 November 2019 in the me Collectors Room Berlin / Olbricht Foundation.
This dual exhibition considers a dialogue between the work of the German artist Mary Bauermeister (*1934) and the works of the Bahraini artist Rashid Al Khalifa (*1952), both of whom are supported and constantly redefined by the sound installation of the German composer, Simon Stockhausen (*1967). Superficial differences between the artworks are set aside, allowing for deep-seated principles of construction to become visually and auditively tangible. The motif of the ‘Wave’ represents a given, unchanging factor, though not understood in any purely formalistic manner. Rather, the expanded sense of light and sound waves, in which there is an interaction between the artworks at every level, is explored.
Curated by Karin Adrian von Roques and Hauke Ohls.
