About

"Transparent" refers to the materials I have used, occasionally since 1972, and which I feel will become a permanent concern.

I make abstract sculpture because the standard set in recent years by some abstract sculptors is of the very highest level . I want my own art to continue on-wards in that rich vein.

This is not to say there is no room in my heart for figurative or other forms of sculpture. As a Modernist, I approach all art with an open eye. Modernism is not a style but an attitude which is open to any art, the only rule being 'quality first'.

One of my sources of inspiration are Norwegian Stave Churches. Small and high, looking like enormous sculptures, especially at Urnes whose relief sculptures inspired me to make my first art works at Suo Jia Cun in Beijing. The reason being that they felt like ancient Chinese relief art and the Viking influence extended far into Europe. But where did it come from?

The greatest sculpture from 4000 years ago inspires me as much as that of the last 100 years. Sculpture has a great heritage which must be maintained, and my ambition is to continually make that all out try.
