An opportunity for artists to use the gallery space to try out ideas for an installation or interactive project.

About

Transition is an opportunity for artists, or artist groups, to use the gallery space to consider how a series of works is developing or to try out ideas for an installation or interactive project. Transition gives artists the time and space to take ideas forward in a public environment, aiming to explore conceptual and practical issues, without the constraints of presenting a finalised exhibition. Artists can challenge their practice and take risks concerning their usual working techniques. It offers visitors the chance to see work in a state of flux, meet the artists and discuss the work

Transition has made a successful annual contribution to Newlyn Art Gallery’s exhibition programme since 2000, with two off-shoots; Curator’s Edition (2008) and Performance Transition (2012) and this is the 12th Transition for artists working in any medium.

Transition gives artists the time and space to take ideas forward in a public environment, aiming to resolve conceptual and practical issues, without the constraints of presenting a finalised exhibition. Artists can challenge their practice and take risks concerning their usual working techniques. They will be able to discuss their work with the curatorial staff at Newlyn Art Gallery, as well as with the visiting public and other artists.

Towards the end of each week an informal lunchtime discussion will take place between the week’s artists, curator Blair Todd and public to discuss and evaluate the progress of their projects.
