AboutTransition is a unique opportunity for artists to try ideas and experiment for a week in a gallery setting.
Transition has been a successful annual contribution to Newlyn Art Gallery's exhibition programme since 2000. It offers artists the chance to use the time and space to consider how a series of work is developing, or to try ideas for an installation or interactive project. Each project is in a constant state of flux, as the artist works in the gallery without the constraints of a finalised exhibition.
Transition provides visitors with access to the creative processes that are usually hidden behindâ¨the closed doors of a studio. A total of eight artists, working in all media, will participate over the four weeks.
Throughout each week the artists re-evaluate their work and respond to visitors' comments.
To mark this tenth edition, there will be an online archive ofâ¨the 100 or so artists that have participated in projects ranging from a race track made of 4000 toy cars, the construction of a victorian velodrome, and an artist's offer to wash your dirty laundry in public. It is also an opportunity for painters and sculptors to view a large body of their work out of the studio. There have also been two Transition off-shoots, Curatorsâ Edition (2008) and Performance Transition (2011).
