An exhibition in the Riverside Cafe Gallery of abstract patterns on canvas and ceramic vessels, where layers create a depth of rich colour and texture.
About
Marissa Sweeney paints on ceramic vessels as well as on canvas. She tries to use similar, transferable processes on both which she describes as:
‘Moments of time captured in viscous linear traces.
Layers upon layers trapping palettes of colour.
A personal history that stays as abstract patterns in my mind.
Each pattern a visual notation of the day that is occurring or has just passed’
Her abstract patterns are both rich in colour and texture. There is an emotional depth in her work echoed in the layers - the processes of rubbing back and re-applying of surfaces acts as a metaphor to which she can really address the notion of time.
