Transience and Joy – paintings

"My exhibition explores what it is to be a woman and my identity here and now, in universal time. It is a game, a process. My paintings explore the dialogue between form and content. The paint I use in my work becomes the subject itself. The colours that glow on the skin dance with an erotic charge. The potential for decadence is shown in the positioning of women’s bodies, in broken brush strokes, and feelings of emptiness, transience and joy.

My paintings are condensed situations, intimate stagings. They include dreamlike, chance moments, like memories in time. In them, time and place overlap one another, simultaneously hiding and revealing. My paintings are not set in reality, but instead relate to my desires. I want to understand my world and myself through my painting process. Only the journey to my own mind and turning the images it reflects into more concrete, visual presentations can help me on my way.

“A river is life and death, rippling and flowing, full of endless time, unpredictable, larger than life.” Initial visions are imprinted on my memory. And those visions invite me to grab onto them and capture them in paint on canvas. When I begin to work, I embark on a journey of discovery to a strange landscape, an unnamed state of experience. It is then that I paint a kind of colourful poetry, which is full of meaning despite lacking words."

Katja Härkki (b. 1969, Helsinki) is a visual artist living and working both in Kyröskoski and Lahti, Finland. She graduated as Master of Arts at The University of Art and Design in Helsinki in 1997 and as Bachelor of Culture and Arts at The University of Applied Sciences in Lahti in 2014.

VERGÄNGLICHKEIT UND FREUDE - Gemälde

“Meine Ausstellung erforscht, was es heißt, eine Frau zu sein und meine Identität im hier und jetzt, in der Weltzeit. Es ist ein Spiel, ein Prozess. Meine Malerei erkundet den Dialog zwischen Form und Inhalt. Die Farbe, die ich in meiner Arbeit benutze wird selbst zum Gegenstand. Farben leuchten auf der Haut und tanzen mit erotischer Kraft. Das Potential für Dekadenz wird durch die Positionierung der Frauenkörper, sowie durch gebrochene Pinselstriche und Gefühle von Leere, Vergänglichkeit und Freude zur Schau gestellt.

Meine Werke sind kurz gefasste Situationen, intime Inszenierungen. Sie beinhalten traumähnliche Momente des Zufalls; wie Erinnerung der Vergangenheit. In ihnen überschneiden sich Zeit und Raum, es wird gleichzeitig versteckt und enthüllt. Meine Werke spielen sich nicht in der Wirklichkeit ab, sondern handeln von meinen Wünschen. Ich möchte meine Welt und mich selbst durch meinen Malprozess besser verstehen. Nur die Reise in meinen eigenen Verstand und das Verwandeln seiner Bilder in konkrete, visuelle Präsentationen kann mir dabei helfen.

“Ein Fluss ist Leben und Tod, plätschernd und fließend, voll mit endloser Zeit, unberechenbar, größer als das Leben.“ Die ursprünglichen Bilder sind in mein Gedächtnis eingebrannt. Und diese Bilder laden mich ein, sie fest zu halten und auf einer Leinwand zu verewigen. Wenn ich mit meiner Arbeit beginne, begebe ich mich auf eine Reise der Entdeckung, in eine merkwürdige Landschaft, eine unbekannte Art von Erfahrung. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt kann ich bunte Poesie malen, die voll von Bedeutung ist, obwohl ihr die Worte fehlen."

Katja Härkki (geb. 1969, Helsinki) ist eine bildende Künstlerin. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Kyröskoski und Lahti, Finnland. 1997 schloss Härkki die University of Art and Design in Helsinki mit einem Master of Arts ab und 2014 erhielt sie den Titel Bachelor of Culture and Arts von der University of Applied Sciences in Lahti.
