The Japanese American National Museum (JANM) and celebrated multi-media artist Taiji Terasaki are proud to announce the reopening of Transcendients: Heroes At Borders including new addition, Transcendients: 100 Days of COVID-19 and Memorial to Healthcare Workers. After a hiatus due to the pandemic, Terasakis’ living memory of the Japanese American concentration camps and tribute to those who continue the fight for democracy and justice for all will be on view at JANM beginning Friday, April 16th.

These weavings tell stories ranging from issues around race and class, to food sustainability, art, scientific innovations, and climate adaptation. Following not only a difficult year for artists, but a particularly painful few weeks of heightened racism and violence against the Asian community, JANM is honored to once again be a place of healing and renewal in this time.
