About

Transcend will surpass our own boundaries, displaying work that is independent of a purely material experience. Therefore producing an exhibition that goes beyond a singular approach, encompassing multiple practices and ideas. When work transcends boundaries set by its institutionalised disciplines we are confronted with a unique opportunity to appreciate its autonomy. No matter how simple or complex, function, physicality and conceptual all have a rooting within art and design practice. Transcend aims to bring approaches together that are ordinarily divided into disciplines; fine art, textiles, graphics and 3D design. This exhibition focuses on expelling such separations. Transcend endeavours to provoke debate, questioning preconceived boundaries enforced by institutions. Do we need to segregate our disciplines, when essential to all practice the need to be seen? Bringing together these jarring works offers a level playing field for all work to speak freely, inspiring exhibitors and visitors to respond. We invite the viewer to interpret our first show.
