Six Turkish-based photographers were invited to reflect upon the key issues of their time: for example the political topics or socio-cultural structure in Turkish society.

About

Besides the laicist military and the conservative, religious-minded government more critical issues of our time culminate in Turkish society: limited freedom of speech and press, fear of terrorism in everyday life, and restriction of individual rights among others. But how do artists experience this environment and how do they handle these conditions in their work? The title of the exhibition „TRANS FORM FAULT“ refers to this theme in a figurative sense. Taken from the field of geoscience, the English term transform fault describes horizontal displacements of tectonic plates, which can cause friction and spontaneous discharges such as earthquakes and thereby wreak destruction across Turkey.

For this reason the aff Galerie and curator Anna Maria Katz are presenting a wide range of contemporary photography from Turkey. Six Turkish-based photographers were invited to reflect upon the key issues of their time: for example the political topics or socio-cultural structure in Turkish society. The series presented by the artists Orhan Cem Çetin, Veysel Çolak, Sinem Dişli, Ece Eldek, Ahmet Unver and Cemre Yeşil fluctuate between the documentary and the political, the poetic and the abstract, the vulnerable and the strong.
