About

After ten years of dedicated work, which has earned them a worldwide reputation as one of the leading and most respected art spaces in London, Parasol unit is hosting a one-off fundraising art auction in collaboration with the renowned auction house, Sotheby's, and the online auction house, Paddle8. Parasol unit has the loyal backing of artists who have either shown their work in one of the outstanding exhibitions held at the foundation over the past ten years or are long-term friends and supporters of the foundation. Adel Abdessemed, Cecilia Edefalk, Fiona Banner, Michaël Borremans, Antony Gormley, Mona Hatoum, Isaac Julien, Idris Kahn, Y.Z. Kami, Robert Mangold, Chris Ofili, Yinka Shonibare, MBE, and Luc Tuymans are among the many artists who have generously donated a work of art to be sold in the auction. All the proceeds raised will go towards the Parasol unit Exhibition and Educational Events programme and secure the future of Parasol unit. A strengthened financial base will ensure that the foundation can continue to exhibit the work of national and international artists for the public benefit and to generate cultural involvement among the local community. All of the donated works of art to be auctioned will be shown in the 10th Anniversary Auction Exhibition, Towards Tomorrow, to be held at Parasol unit from 22—30 September 2014. The auction itself is organised in two parts. For the first part of the auction, Parasol unit is collaborating with Paddle8.com who will auction one half of the donated works of art online, from 16—30 September 2014. A party to mark the end of this online auction will take place at Parasol unit on 30 September, during which guests will be able to place their final bids live in the gallery. For the final part of the auction, a second selection of donated works of art will be sold in a live auction at the Sotheby's Contemporary Art Day Auction on 18 October. Prior to the auction, the works will be on view at Sotheby's from 11—17 October 2014.
