​Tourist’s Gaze presents a collection of diaristic photographs by Tiffany Smith that interrogate the roles of insider vs outsider, particularly in “tropical” vacation destinations by mirroring tourist behavior while navigating familiar locations and ancestral lands.   Presented as a collection of postcards, the images traverse vacation destinations in The Bahamas, Jamaica, and Florida, tied to Smith’s family history and describe the experience of acting as a tourist in a place considered as home. The images blend intimate family moments with performance portraits of a tourist persona and analysis of the aesthetics of tropical/ beachside communities.
