In March 2021, SET awarded 19 artists, projects and collectives a free 400sqft studio for one year at SET Woolwich. ‘Toppling’ is a group exhibition organised by some of the selected artists as a celebration to mark the end of their studio residency and as a partial response to the building itself.
About
In March 2021, SET awarded 19 artists, projects and collectives a free 400sqft studio for one year at SET Woolwich.
The vein of this building engorged with sugar/ carved totems/ woodwork/
automated drawings/sun sign simulation/prints on polyester/ rivets pushed through clay
what does settling in the middle as an action do?/ to make a home in the topple is also to stabilize that process of toppling. Play/act the process as a site of permanence/ ignore the minutia, the flockings of dust that coat/cover the skin/get mixed in with the hair and the scalp/sweat ignore that a topple will push the cadence/ of your speech till the only language you speak is /ruin.
Strip the language from the scene and now it topples/without a record but if you listen closely
enough/You can hear those voices being pushed through buildings/out of lovers'/ brains, when they dream of /love, and developers’ brains/ when they dream of growth
