AboutSelected from photographs taken backstage at fashion shows in London and Paris over the last two years, Before The Runway documents the high energy environments behind temporarily constructed screens and make-shift dressing tables. Focusing on the fleeting relationships forged between a cast of models, designers, dressers and hangers-on, the images exploit the situation's absurdity and beauty in equal measure. Presented as a slide projection in the Project Space, as well as large-scale prints exhibited throughout the building, the exhibition casts a frank and sometimes satirical glance at the alluring arena of high fashion from the other side.
Thomas Giddings' backstage work has previously featured in i-D and EXIT. A recent graduate of London College of Fashion, he has also photographed for British Vogue, Japanese Dazed and Confused and Topman. This will be his first solo exhibition in London.
