Asia Society Hong Kong Center's multi-sensory exhibition To See the Forest and the Trees features artworks by ten local and overseas artists responding to the forestry and environment of Hong Kong.

About

Inspired as a response to Hong Kong’s devastating loss of trees caused by the tropical cyclone Typhoon Mangkhut in September 2018, Hidden Forests includes an art exhibition, a music series, community workshops and nature tours—amid the urban nature and heritage site of Asia Society Hong Kong Center—that explore the significance of trees to our local environment, culture and history. The theme is inspired by the expression, “cannot see the forest for the trees,” which describes when one fails to grasp the big picture by focusing only on a certain aspect. To See the Forest and the Trees is a highlight of Hidden Forests, a summer arts and culture project. It addresses the urgency to preserve the well-being and future of our planet in dire geological decline. The exhibition includes six brand new commissions inspired by local ecology, participating artists and collectives including: South Ho; Vvzela Kook; Frank Tang; Post Tree Lifestyle; James Prosek; Haley van Oosten; Trevor Yeung; Sally Bunker; Natee Utarit and Allora & Calzadilla. This summer arts and culture project includes Ode to Trees chamber music series, guided art x heritage x tree tours, flora rubbing, upcycling arts and craft, botanical perfumery and nature storytelling.  ASHK will also collaborate with education partner Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education center to lead urban tree and birdwatching tours and outdoor excursions.
