A choreographic response by Siobhan Davies and Matthias Sperling to Claire Barclay's Shadow Spans installation

About

Choreographer Siobhan Davies and dance artist Matthias Sperling have been commissioned to create a movement response to Claire Barclay's installation, Shadow Spans, for the Whitechapel Gallery. This has been a chance for them to explore spontaneous dialogue between dance and visual art in the context of a public space. Their response to Barclay's installation focuses on how the individual parts of her work, as well as the whole, seem to exist in their own time and their own stages of completion. They have used this inital impression to create a durational presence within the stillness of the installation, by finding simple movements from a series of complex decisions. Alongside their response, the artists will be in conversation about the genesis and development of the project on Thursday 10 March 2011 at 8pm. Free entry, no booking required.
