Tim Etchells: All we have is words, All we have is worlds
7 Nov 2016 – 31 Jul 2017
Words inside and outside the OCC building: an invitation to discovery.
About
What are our lives composed of and encompassed by? The solid matter of a tangible world or the ephemeral material of language and ideas? So, are words tools for decoding the fragile, fleeting world around us? “All we have is words, All we have is worlds” as the British artist Tim Etchells proclaims in neon signs that shed their light on the self-evident: we are our words, we are our worlds. An installation with neon letters on the outside and phrases on the inside of the OCC building which invites us to discover them.
The interior, too, will feature words hung high in the foyer in an irregular neon cloud which creates a fluid, multi-level text. In this, his new work entitled Speak Wait (2016), thirty verbs speak to us of our past and present and invite us to discover them. Tim Etchells is here to illuminate our thoughts.
