Théâtre de l' ordinaire is the latest project between Leila Ziu and Maëva Berthelot.
About
Drawing on both their individual backgrounds the two artists work across disciplines of performance, design, video and installation.
Ziu and Berthelot work immediately and intuitively; their performance method is grounded in improvisation primarily working with unedited one-shot takes to release control.
Their approach to art has always been anti-hierarchy. This project aims to expose and confront idealised imagery from the truthful perspective of the ordinary. Taking influence from the visual language of showbiz, popular culture, fashion and advertising, the artists surrender to the work right from the start confining themselves in the challenged aesthetic.
Their performance indulges in the tension between the search for perfection, needing to impress and the reality of their vulnerability, humanity and errors. Only using DIY techniques and banal everyday locations as film sets, Ziu and Berthelot attempt to bring glamour into the ordinary, on-screen magic into real life.
An attempt doomed to fail or wildly succeed.
The Carte Blanche show is the first time the two artists will experiment with a live set up. This is an invitation for a collective experience; participation is encouraged.
