About
Join us for 'Precarious Assembly', an evening of performance and installation artwork that takes place throughout the Whitworth from 6-9pm on Thursday 4th August.
We are Accumulations, a collective of women exploring body and movement-based performance practice. We have selected projects from 12 artists who responded to our brief with pieces that explore or take a strong influence from women artists, activists and theorists, female family heritage, and to the Whitworth as site.
The evening will begin at 6pm with a ‘keynote’ performance by Sexcentenary - a group of self-identifying older women who explore gender, feminism and ageing in their performance work.
This is followed by a schedule of curated works - some are durational or have a processional format, whilst others are of short duration that invite you to watch from beginning to end. Alongside Sexcentenary, the artists involved in 'Precarious Assembly' are Funmi Adewole, Amy Buckley, Rosa Cisneros, Rachel Dean, Dualworks, Jane France's Dunlop & Mira Loew, Gillian Dyson, Angela Kennedy, Karen Lawrence, Anna MacDonald, and Holly Victoria Matthews.
Further information about the projects and their locations in the gallery will be published in our catalogue for the event, which includes a statement from each artist about their work, a contextual article by Sara Spies, and details of a satellite project, 'A Shrine to Women's Work' by Amy Voris happening from 1st-13th August. The catalogue and artwork is designed by Manchester's Loose Collective.
Drinks will be available to purchase on the night.
