About

The Riverside Café Gallery is delighted to welcome Stanley Gubbins with his exhibition Three Cities. This collection of black and white photographs has been taken over the last couple of years in different cities in Europe.

Beginning in London, Stanley started exploring the architecture of the buildings and experimenting with different styles of photography and soon noticed how unique each building was. He then wanted to explore this further and over the years as he visited various places in Europe, really focused on showcasing just how unique each city is.

London is very busy and alive but has a sense of order about it that Stanley wanted to try and capture with his photographs, before expanding on what he has seen in our capital city with a visit to Berlin. As another capital that has such interesting places and buildings, Stanley spent a lot of time exploring the city and learning the style. Finally, he went over to Rome and again found the buildings to each have a unique style. Personally, Stanley wanted Rome to be seen in two ways. The first was the beautiful, aged look of the city that breathes the history but the second was the real side of Rome. The gritty streets, the graffiti and the poverty.

As a collective, Stanley wanted his images of the three places to show a very real, ground level, perspective. This, he feels, allows the viewers of his work to see these cities through his eyes, giving a true sense of each of these places.

(Please note that the exhibition is only accessible during café opening hours and these may be subject to change due to events at the Maltings.)
