Haus am Lützowplatz shows the first institutional solo exhibition of the artist Thomas Feuerstein in Berlin.
The Austrian Vienna-based artist is working at the interface of applied and theoretical science and combines epistems from philosophy, art history and literature with biotechnology, economics and politics into an artistic narrative that opens up questions about existential basic parameters and the origin of life.
An essential aspect of PROMETHEUS DELIVERED is the deconstruction of the Greek myth about human creativity and hybris. From the replica of a classicist marble sculpture showing the punishment of the ancient “fire-bearer” – tied to the Caucasus, an eagle tears out his daily regrown liver – chemoautolithotrophic bacteria are used to obtain nutrients for a culture of human liver cells. The complex transformation process, in which inorganic matter is converted into organic tissue (meat), is carried out in a spatial laboratory installation that contains in its core a realistic concept. Feuerstein translates the Prometheus myth into a reproductive cycle, which creates an actual material relation between the human body and the sculpture.
Afterwards, the exhibition will be shown at the ERES Foundation in Munich.
