About
Installation artist James Snelling lives in a matryoshka doll of micro-utopias, fantasy, and object-centric physical world building. His work combines assemblage and making, the exploration of surface, and alertness to the elemental potential of site. Snelling’s multi-disciplinary practice explores a lifelong maintenance of the façade of perceived immortality that surrounds his world, and a fascination with its uncanny breaches – manifested in anomalies of time and space, and the blurring of fact and fiction. Whether object, image, creator or viewer, performance is key to Snelling’s artistic engagement, and draws upon multiple histories; for his Anteros Arts Foundation show, Snelling presents a combination of new work, retrospective exhibition, and garage sale.
