BIO
Born in Florence in 1989, Caterina moved to London in 2013, where she was confronted with new experiences and cultural influences that changed her deeply.
Mixing her background in graphic design with self-taught photography skills, Caterina started to get interested in architecture and the interaction between people and space.
She became aware of a feeling of disassociation between the city and its inhabitants.
This prompted her to reflect on perspective in an attempt to reinterpret space to express new and original relationships with it.
By letting them question what they are seeing, Caterina makes the viewers reestablish the visual relationships in a conscious and very personal way.
THE EXHIBITION
Caterina found herself being part of a generation that seems deprived of any possibility for new experiences, where what could be seen has already been seen, what could be heard has already been heard, all that could be done has been done. She felt the need to find a new perspective on what she saw.
Caterina started taking a “certain distance” - sometimes long, sometimes short- from common objects and daily life scenes in order to feel surprised again…like when you are new to this world… maybe in order to feel again. This is when the series started (2013).
This series is about blinking. Twice.
Photography has the power to be both subjective and objective, but here there is no chance for the latter. Interpretation is key and space is relative, you will only see what you want to see and come to know what is unknown.
