About
Georgie Cowan-Turner is an award-winning writer and director who has worked across several disciplines including film, podcast creation, arts journalism and curation. Within the last year she graduated with a distinction for a Masters in Film from Queens University Belfast. She is also a graduate of English Literature from University College London (BA).
Cowan-Turner's work is created with broad audiences in mind and the desire to dramatise the ordinary, especially the daily challenges faced by women. She is interested in visualising modern life and the issues of technology through a historical gaze; creating works which fuse popular culture and aesthetics from the past and present. Her work is at times darkly ironic, humorous and offers a unique way of contextualising modern life.
The two films screening at this event, "My Morning Routine" and "The Waiting Room" are currently receiving attention and awards on the festival circuit. Both films were made during the lockdown and engage with and are shaped by Cowan-Turner’s experience of this time.
Following the live screening, Georgie Cowan-Turner will lead a talk about the major influences on her films, responding to male filmmaker’s versions of women in their work and the creative potential of making films on a low-budget.
