Exhibition of mostly sculptural series "The War Within" by a Prague based sculptor of Turkish origin Özlem Akin.
About
The author’s work mirrors her judgement towards the the authoritative tendencies of many world regimes, the whole concept of the exhibition reflects the populist feasts in the political arena in recent years. The entire “War Within” series refers to the phrases used and abused, with words that are found in the constitutions of local and world powers, but also in media and political campaigns. The unifying element is the critique of authoritarian practices quietly accepted by a silent majority.
The starting point for this series was the author’s outrage over the current political situation in her native land. The first piece of this series, which saw the light of the world, was the wall sculpture “The one eyed King” and it was before the election of the current US president and before the first really serious crack in the coherence of EU, before the referendum on Brexit. So it happened that the subsequent events added a whole another dimension of meaning.. The very title of the exhibition, as well as the expression of some of the works, has overlaps with sciences of human psyche.
