The Vegetable Parliament: BUILDING THE PARLIAMENT

Weeks have passed since we were planted on Berlin soil and placed in a temporary home they call "the Germinator." We've grown, cautiously peering through the glass to glimpse our new home. Soon, " The Vegetable Parliament " will open—the reason we traveled so far. We'll grow up its structure, intertwining ourselves with the willows and local wood that will become a new milpa.

We wish to spread out, put down our roots, and climb high to see the new skies that await us. We wish to meet all those who seek refuge in our Parliament. You are all welcome to stay with us—squirrels, birds, weeds, insects, humans, rain, sun, wind... Come, let's build a new ecosystem together—one that we hope will benefit us all.

The second phase of "The Vegetable Parliament" begins on May 9 with Building the Parliament . A large-scale, walk-in sculpture consisting of 11 ladders arranged in a circle pointing toward the infinite sky will be installed in silent green's front yard. Vegetables from various Mexican milpas will grow up the installation and share their voices with the Berlin public in the coming project phases.
 

The Vegetable Parliament

This milpa is made up of flying potatoes, edible flowers, climbing pumpkins, hanging watermelons, and various types of colorful beans, among other vegetables. We traveled here from various Mayan milpas in southern Mexico—we've been there for centuries, but now we're on different ground... they call it Berlin. In our ecosystem, resources (water, light, soil) are used complementarily, and all participants enrich each other. We were brought here to slowly weave ourselves into a temporary installation that will become our parliament.

Here we come together—humans and non-humans—to grow, connect, and create something new. A place created through feelings, cosmovision, social relationships, biodiversity, and knowledge. Here we dream of new realities. At its center is a living, walk-in installation—a speculative parliament for utopian visions and possible futures of local socio-ecological systems. As it evolves with the seasons, each visitor and each activation becomes an integral part of the milpa.

Visit us, become a part of us. We invite you to think differently, to leave behind all preconceived notions of possibility. To play seriously – or like children play. Because when we play, we believe in it.
