Influenced by the work and practice of Harold Offeh and the varied career of Preston clown, acrobat, and filmmaker, Will Onda, this show plays with the conventions of 19th/20th century variety theatre, featuring work from 10 NW regional and national artists.
About
Approached as a deconstructed mise-en-scene or stage-set, Harold Offeh’s sculptures - including a platform/stage, doorframe, lights on stand and high-bar - expand notions of sculpture, prop and performance. They are assembled in dialogue with the participating artists’ works that range from painting and performance, to film and sculpture, as well as recontextualised objects from the Harris’s social history collection.
The Varieties is co-curated by Harold Offeh and Clarissa Corfe.
Part of Dance First, Think Later, the 2015/16 contemporary art programme at the Harris Museum & Art Gallery. Supported by Arts Council England and the Friends of the Harris.
