Silent Room is pleased to present a new selection of Photographic works by the emerging British artist Gemma Land

About

The new photographic series is Land's return to the realm of portraiture, juxtaposed with architecture. Her practice focuses upon the ideology of residential architecture and often disrupts the structure and form of the houses, allowing the viewer to read a new meaning of the homes. The Twins: Once and Again references Surrealism and the Uncanny, adding the image of the body to the equation, displaying side by side an image of identical twins and an image of two semi-detached houses. The image of the semi-detached house draws out by association the oxymoron of twinning, the contradiction of appearing the same and yet different at the same time. The houses started as completely identical structures that over time have become individualised by the different owners of the properties.
