Between presence and absence in the work of Roman Opalka, Nobuo Sekine, Lee Ufan.

About

WeGallery presents The Time and the Soul, which brings together for the first time in Berlin, in one exhibition project, three protagonists of international contemporary art: Roman Opalka (Abbeville, France, 1931 – Chieti, Italy, 2011),  Nobuo Sekine (Saitama, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, 1942), and Lee Ufan (Kyongnam, Korea, 1936). The exhibition offers a journey through the historical and the most recent works of three artists, who belong to the same generation, but are usually considered independently. The reason that has allowed us to pull over this three figures,is in the common view of the space – dynamic field to use as a track and a paper towel to deal with the issue of the place and the immutability of the time,  the thinning of the light with the relationship between the self and the individual artist creator of the viewer. This three artists share a creative project that marks the canvas with the infinity and with the wonderful succession of numbers that are signing the lifetime in Roman Opalka’s; the silent harmony and tranquility that characterizes Nobuo Sekine with his work, that includes elemental sculptures that invite zen-like mediations tracking suspended and the metaphysical passage of the brush on the canvas and the sculptures with stones and steel which emphasize materials, perception and interrelationships between space and matter of Lee Ufan. All of this allows Us to frame Their works, according to a new perspective, that sees these three approaches to art – as a bridge between the western idea of becoming, progress of history and the east of the circularity of time and relativity. Three works – so different in theme and sensitivity create unity. Three artists share the will to stop the sense of their presence and their intervention with a physical action, that marks the surface of the space: in a word, a single large fresco on the theme of human action and the meaning of human presence in the world around him, on a one hand through mutations imposed on each of us from life, the other through the imperceptible changes and the immutability of the time along the nature.
