2016 National Sculpture Prize Finalists explore the notion that ‘the progress of time creates the texture of our present’. By investigating the patterns that time creates both in our lives and in our environment, the artists address themes that include momentum, history, body and memory.

About

The work of three Broomhill National Sculpture Prize Finalists investigates the patterns that time creates both in on our lives and in our environment, addressing themes that include momentum, history, body and memory.

Stathis Dimitriadis’ work derives from a curiosity about the daily stimuli of the urban texture, joining together ceramic elements in assemblages which seek to replicate the way we communicate and organise our thoughts and memories.

In a work created especially for this exhibition, Faults in the Fabric of Time, Sue McDougall, explores the nature of time and the brevity of the human lifespan. She imagines a point in the far distant future when our current civilisation has long ended, that intelligent beings explore the earth and find evidence of our existence deep among the rock strata.

Paul Tuppeny’s artworks develop from a core interest in the way that we present our species to ourselves. Drawing upon the visual language of presented history, instructional artworks deliver messages invoking a sense of self that lies beyond the individual and the present.
