Nedko Solakov
About
Nedko Solakov's commission is for the Whitechapel's new project The Street, a major year-long programme of site specific artist's commissions focusing on and around Wentworth Street (home to Petticoat Lane Market) in East London. Solakov 's work ranges from an ironic reflection on his own role in the business of art, to playful and absurd responses to political realities.
Nedko Solakov's commission, titled A Turnover for Many and a Bit of Luck for One, gives a member of the public the chance to win a specially created art work by Nedko Solakov worth £5,000. To enter this year-long lottery, members of the public are invited to buy an item from Petticoat Lane Market worth at least £5. Their chosen item is then displayed at the The Street's headquarters - The Shop, 26 ' 28 Toynbee St, London, E1 - along with the purchaser's contact details and alongside the art work prize by Solakov from 30 March ' 18 May. At the end of a year, in March 2009, a Petticoat Lane market trader will pick the winner.
