An exhibition of paintings by Artemis Chatzigiannaki

About

An exhibition of photographs, an exhibition of artifacts and memorabilia of the period, and a series of talks on the style, tone and spirit of the changing urban landscape and the social conditions and climate prevailing in Athens over half a century ago.

The overall project has been made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of GEK TERNA, and the curation of journalist and writer Nikos Vatopoulos.

The project takes as its springboard new works by Artemis Chatzigiannaki, who progresses her artistic exploration of the urban landscape and collective memory at a crucial period in the growth of the city.
Her works, subtly nostalgic, evoke the passing from an older world to a new. She revives fragments of the Athenian past in a way that is both invigorating and liberating.
The art show is accompanied also by an exhibition of photographs by contemporary photographers on themes that recall the style and aesthetic of the 1960s. Taking part are: Yorgos Thanos, George Kazazis, Panagiotis Panagakis, Tasos Salteris, Ilias Tsaousakis and Tasos Chalkiopoulos.

A special section includes artifacts and memorabilia from the 1960s such as magazines, toys, objets d’art, and everyday items. Other parallel events include talks and presentations on themes related to Athens of the 1960s and how our own age might best apprehend and appreciate this seminal period.
Parallel events will be held on:

Friday 24 January, at 17.30 - Talk by Thanasis Yohalas

Sunday 26 January, at 17.30 - Talk by Maria Kaltsa

Friday 31 January, at 17.30 - Talk by Nikos Vatopoulos.

A catalogue of the works by Artemis Chatzigiannaki with texts by Zoe Vaiou and Thanasis Yohalas, Nikos Vatopoulos, Maria Kaltsa, George Kazazis, Ilias Kafaoglou and Artemis Chatzigiannaki will be on sale at the exhibition.
