TWO DAYS OF EVENTS THAT CELEBRATE AND EXPLORE THE ROLE OF SOUND IN STORYTELLING

About

From the pioneering work of Ben Burtt and Walter Murch on Star Wars and Apocalypse Now respectively, to the lonely, otherworldly electronica of Under The Skin and the visceral sound design of Berberian Sound Studio; a good soundtrack enriches the cinematic experience, helping to evoke emotion, create tension and communicate what words and pictures alone cannot.

Taking place during CINECITY and supported by Creative Skillset, Lighthouse presents two days of talks, screenings and workshops that will explore the creative potential of sound in the storytelling process.

Featuring a stellar line-up of world-class sound professionals, The Sound of Story is aimed at filmmakers, composers, sound practitioners and film lovers. Running over two days, this is a chance for participants to gain skills and knowledge to enhance their own projects. Attendees can choose to participate in one or both days:

Friday 5 December: The Sound of Story – conference (Sallis Benney Theatre)

A stimulating day of talks, case-studies, discussions and masterclasses by leaders in the field of sound showcasing a range of critically acclaimed and innovative projects. Challenging the common myth that the time to think seriously about sound is at the end of the production process, The Sound of Story will encourage attendees to design their projects with sound in mind from the very start, working in harmony with the other elements of the creative process.

Speakers confirmed so far include:

- Joakim Sundström (Berberian Sound StudioThe Constant GardenerSeven Psychopaths )
- Stuart McCowan (previously at Skywalker Sound)
