Seeun Kim's project uses jewellery and metal objects based on arts and humanities. Kim hopes that the work will provide people who appreciate it with an opportunity for self-reflection and an awareness of those around them.

About

Today’s society is composed of an incredible diversity of people. Mindful of this diversity, the responsibility of the individual should extend beyond themselves and encompass their role in the community. The problems faced by individuals, those faced by societies and those of state vary enormously. In the end, I believe that the existence of communities is to increase opportunities for everyone and the chance for happiness. We need to extend this feeling of community into the world and think of it as an international family or global society. I undertook this project to highlight the importance of community, in the hope of living in a society where everyone can live with a smile.

I would like to convey my opinions and examine social issues through my project. Parts of this project use jewellery and metal objects based on arts and humanities. I hope that my work will provide people who appreciate it with an opportunity for self-reflection and an awareness of those around them.

Modern people communicate digitally through a vast range of social networks. As a result of the pandemic and times of lockdown, the use of these platforms to communicate increased exponentially while, even before the pandemic, people’s face-to-face communication has been declining. Also, since the advent of text messaging, communication online has been lacking in sincerity and most of the information has been focused on people’s fun.

Could it be that we are isolated from society and that true communication is lost? Lockdown and isolation have given us time for self-reflection and perhaps it is time for change. I think there are only three conditions we need to live wisely in a modern society: firstly, respect for others, secondly, responsibility to the group to which we belong and finally, I think that colloperation between people is a necessity, as is co-operation between countries.

We must constantly question ourselves, reflect and answer. At this moment, I ask those of you who appreciate this work the following questions: Are you living a life of respect and consideration for the people around you in our society?

Are you cooperating with your family, friends and colleagues around you?

Who are you in our society? In what sort of society would you like to live in the future?
