The definition of sex and sexuality has and always will be open to interpretation. Each individual has his/ her own definition of what is considered sexual. What factors are recognized in the process defining something as ‘sexual’ or ‘erotic’?
The Sex Show attempts to push the boundaries of the definition of sex. It approaches the topic of sex from all angles, exhibiting works that vary on a broad scale, from art that is more explicit to art that is more elusive in content. Not only does The Sex Show contain a wide variety of sex-related themes and contents, it also exhibits the use of abundantly different mediums such as video, photography, sculpture, collage and paint.
Gallery Hours Wed- Sun. 1-6pm
About Modern Whore: A Memoir:
Modern Whore is a collection of 27 short stories written by Andrea Werhun based on the two years she spent working as an escort in Toronto and 60 portraits taken of Werhun by filmmaker Nicole Bazuin. Modern Whore captures poignant insights into a woman’s complex journey with sexuality, empowerment, freedom and whoredom. The memoir has been mentioned by the New York Times and The Guardian published a glowing feature in their First Book Interview series.
On February 15, 2018 at the opening event for The Sex Show at Gallery 1313, an original photographic print from Modern Whore by Nicole Bazuin will be on display and Andrea Werhun will perform a reading from the book. Copies of Modern Whore will be available at the opening event for purchase and signing by the creators.
